The interns will be presented with a design thesis, and each intern will be given the opportunity to generate/create solutions using sketching, electronic surfacing and 3D model development.

Students will be selected by CDM. The key to this concept will be CDM's assignment of a mentor to the student. During the summer, in addition to working closely together, mentors and scholars will spend informal time together participating in recreational and cultural activities to help build the relationship that will endure through the scholars' college career and beyond. After the successful completion of the internship, participants will receive a scholarship to help cover expenses for the next academic year.

STIPEND:
A maximum $2,000 housing and living reimbursement is available.
After the successful completion of the internship, participants will receive a $6,000 scholarship for the next academic year.

Job Description

Software/Firmware Engineers play key roles in multi-discipline teams working on new products and solutions. The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, Inc. (SHPE) AHETEMS Office is working with the West Virginia High Technology Consortium Foundation to provide full-time, qualified, undergraduate and graduate students, who are interested in entrepreneurialism, developing technology business plans, taking engineering products to market, and patent processing, the opportunity to attend a competitive two-week Emerging Minority Business Leaders (EMBL) Summer Institute from June 11-23, 2006, at West Virginia
Liberty College.

The WVHFC Foundation will provide registration, lodging, meals, $1500 stipend, and 3-graduate level credits. SHPE will provide assistance with travel to selected participants. NOTE: You do not have to be a SHPE member to apply for the travel assistance.

Applications are due May 15, 2006, for NASA's 18th Annual Planetary
Science Summer School, which will hold two sessions this summer, July
24-28 and July 31 -August 4, at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory,
Pasadena, California. Science and engineering post-doctoral and
graduate students with a strong interest in careers in planetary
exploration are encouraged to apply. Preference is given to U.S.
citizens. The student teams will carry out the equivalent of an
early concept study responsive to a selected NASA Announcement of
Opportunity, prepare a proposal authorization review presentation,
present it to a review board, and receive feedback. At the end of
the week, students will have a clearer understanding of the
relationships among mission design, cost, and schedule, and the
trade-offs necessary to stay within cost and schedule while
preserving the opportunity to acquire high-quality science. They
will also understand the lifecycle of a space mission. Partial

Women in Engineering Program
Exploring Engineering at the University of Maryland (E2@UMD) is a two-week residential
summer program (July 9-15, 2006 Session One and July 16-22, 2006 Session Two) for 60 high
school women in each session interested in math, science, or engineering. E2@UMD seeks to:
increase students’ knowledge of the various engineering fields offered at the University of
Maryland; encourage students to pursue engineering as a course of study in college; and expose
them to female role models in engineering.

Job one:
Two camp counselors live with E2@UMD participants and enforce the rules and policies of the
program in the classroom and in the residence hall. The camp counselors coordinate all of the
social activities at night and help students with their final project. The camp counselors are
expected to attend E2@UMD program activities and provide information and referral to
participants who want to know more about engineering. The camp counselors work
collaboratively with the entire E2@UMD staff and the Women in Engineering staff.
All interested applicants must complete the application form and submit a resume with their
application by April 7, 2006.

Job two:
The teaching assistant is responsible for students’ overall conduct in the classroom. The teaching
assistant greets faculty and guest lecturers; helps presenters organize the materials for their
presentations; leads students to their activities; facilitates discussion in the classroom; documents
session experiences through reading participant journals and taking photographs; and promotes
active participation and teamwork. The teaching assistant is expected to attend E2@UMD
program activities and provide information and referral to participants who want to know more

The principal purpose of this position is to provide core competency engineering support for ongoing neuroscience studies being conducted for projects within the Human Adaptation and Countermeasures Office. This position will require frequent travel to remote bed rest facilities. The Neurosciences Laboratory is a component of the Human Adaptation and Countermeasures Office, which implements the scientific objectives of the life sciences research laboratories at the Johnson Space Center.

Independently evaluates, selects, and applies standard engineering techniques, procedures and criteria, using judgment in making minor adaptations and modifications. Assignments have clear and specified objectives. Receive instructions on specific assignments objectives, complex features, and possible solutions. Assistance is furnished on unusual problems and work is reviewed for application of sound professional judgment.
This position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in biomedical engineering, electrical engineering, or a closely allied field plus 0-2 years of experience; or equivalent experience. The incumbent should be skilled in the design, testing, evaluation, and integration of biomechanical instrumentation intended for use with human subjects. Experience with biomedical instrumentation and measurements, real-time data acquisition systems, and signal processing is also needed. The incumbent must have a sufficiently advanced knowledge of human physiology to understand biomedical experiments designed to characterize the human response to space flight and the development of appropriate countermeasures. This position requires U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Resident Status.

PC skills in Microsoft office products are required. The incumbent must have advanced computer skills including the ability to develop data acquisition and analysis software for specific laboratory applications. Previous experience with Matlab and/or C programming is desired. The incumbent is expected to participate as a member of a research team working closely with principal investigators, support scientists, and other engineers. Communication skills should be excellent.

The Summer Venture in Management Program (SVMP) is a week of HBS instruction that exposes high-potential college students in the summer between their junior and senior year to the HBS MBA experience and the variety of opportunities a degree in management can afford.
